But times have changed and so has our needlepoint. We now have Basketweave and millions of other stitches as well as many different threads to work with. In this book you will see the proper way to Basketweave, learn how a left-handed stitcher stitches, learn decorative stitches, and my 'go to' threads. You will also learn where different stitches are used and how to bead.

As we all know Half Cross and Continental uses less thread. However it does not last as long as it is only wrapping the canvas thread and not reinforcing the canvas. Therefore over time the canvas may get old an brittle and break and then all the stitches will fall out.

When Basketweave is used it reinforces the canvas threads and and you are less likely to loose stitches over time. Basketweave can be used in a space that is at least 2 stitches by 2 stitches. So having said that there are very few places that Basketweave can not be used. It is one of the basic stitches that everyone should know how to do. Along with keeping your piece much straighter your stitches will look much smoother. Now there are times when Continental is the only stitch you can use, if you are stitching a single line of color. Half Cross really should only be used when beading the Hex beads. More on that later." (Julia Snyder, First Stitch First)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0592/2265/5143/files/CopyofCopyofCopyofWhimsicalOrangeBirthdayPartyInvitation.png?v=1778293460
