Weighted Gusset Stand-Up Finishing Class August 2, 2026 Sunday

Prerequisites: Students need to have taken Lita's Square ornament class prior. Students should be comfortable lacing their ornaments, making cording, and sewing cording on. These skills will NOT be taught in this intermediate level class.

As this is a more advanced class please complete the following prep work to ensure you can finish in the allotted amount of time.  It will be difficult to keep up with the pace of the class if you have not completed the prepwork. 

Prep and lace the front (only the front) of your ornament like you would for a normal needlepoint ornament. Please note, ornaments MUST be smaller than 6x6 inches.

Cut the back board for your ornament, but do not lace the fabric on.

Make you cording ahead of time. To ensure your cording is long enough, loosely lay your strand around your stitching 5 times. Unwind and measure all additional strands to the same length. Once you measure, please count out strands following the chart below and knot both ends of each group of colors. 

1 color: 3 groups of 5 strands
2 colors: 2 groups of 8 strands
3 colors: 3 groups of 5 strands
4 colors: 4 groups of 4 strands

If you do not have the tools to make cording, please arrive 15 minutes early to the class and you can make it in the store before the class.

Laced Needlepoint Ornament Front smaller than 6x6

Cut Back Board

Cording 
Backing Fabric  
Fabric or Ribbon for Your Gusset (1 Yard minimum recommended) - If using ribbon, you will want it to be 1/2 inch wide. 

Please note Dupioni Silk, thinner stretchy velvet, or quilting cotton recommended. Thick fabrics can be hard to sew through and should be avoided.
